no date circa 1800. A single plan of Dieppe, an original map from the 18th century, 21 by 31 cms. mounted behind glass and framed (34 by 44 cms) in very good condition. This is an English produced map, text in English. The fortifications are well delineated and are those presumably of Louis XIV ? 50.00

Turko 1950. 17 by 12 cms folding double sided plan of the city, 1:15000 scale, and environs, 1:100000 scale, along with street index and brief guide. Text in Finnish, Swedish and English. Illustrated card covers, in very good condition. Turko was the former capital of Finland. A very attractive map. 15.00


4716. : Coronation Arrangements, Wednesday May 12th 1937.

London: 1937. 15 by 15 cms, unfolding to 45 by 60 cms. comprising a map of the Coronation route with, on the reverse, the arrangements by bus, underground, cars, taxicabs and trains for the day. A few very minor nicks at the edges and joins of folds, otherwise very good. A nice piece of ephemera. 15.00

London, Geographia n.d. c.1936. Folding map, linen backed, in v.g. condition. One rail route neatly highlighted in pen. Red cloth covers have the date 1/6/36 pencilled on. The Kyle of Lochalsh line is not on, suggesting the map is pre-1900 but published later. 12.00

Automobile Association and Royal Aero Club: 1938/39. 25.5 x 13 cm. dissected, coloured, waterproofed map, in stiff, linen backed cardboards, in poor/fair condition. Ireland was covered in four sheets. This belonged to C.A.R. Shillington who headed the security services in Northern Ireland during World War II. This is in well used condition and has some odd annotation marks. 15.00

London: G.W. Bacon & Co. Ltd., September 1939. 20 x 12 cm, opening to 77 x 100 cm. Blue card covers, worn and a little dusty. The map, which is coloured, looks as if it has been pinned to a wall at some time. In fair/ good condition. A nice piece of early wartime ephemera. 25.00


9781. Bacon & Co.: England and Wales with Useful Information for Motorists.

Oxford: The Chart Publishing Company n.d. c.1920's. In ever ready style in drop in case. Two sectional maps, one inch equals eight miles, North and South, dissected, coloured printed by Bacon, both in red maroon covers, along with a separate index and route guide to map, all in a maroon slip case with gilt title, the boards and slip case have some old light water staining but the maps are most attractive and were expensive to buy when new. Showing Railways, Ministry of Transport first and second class roads with their numbers, principal new roads and by-passes, mileage between towns, Aerodromes, heights of towns above sea level etc. 20.00

Includes the nine counties of Ulster, though the map extends as far south as Dublin. Inserts are a Geological Map of Ulster with key panel, a Table of Distances, and an Index Gazetteer. Some wear along folds and edges. A map for the schoolroom or office, showing some age and wear but overall in fairly good condition, scarce. Hinge strengthened with tape at some time. 40.00

London W.E. Smith & Son no date . 16.5 by 10.5 cms, blue covers with title in red, linen backed, coloured, in very good condition. Consists of a plan of Newcastle at a scale of three quarters of a mile, below which is a map of the environs, unfolded 49 by 36 cms. A handsome map. 25.00


18764. Bartholomew, John: Jarrold's New Map of Suffolk from the new Ordnance Survey.

Edinburgh. Bartolomew n.d. Half Inch scale. A folded, dissected map, linen backed, with plain green covers,in very good condition. This is an oddity. The map is backed by a linen backed architectural drawing. This is signed and dated, "H.M. Office of Works London S.W. Sept 1921. The drawing can only be seen by holding it up to the light. Parts are of course visible on the sections not covered by the map. With unlabelled green boards. It is possible that this is a training piece done by someone in the cartographic section learning to paste a dissected map using a linen backing. Whatever its origins it is still a lovely map of Suffolk. 20.00

Edinburgh: n.d. c.1910. 90 by 75 cms. A large coloured wall map, linen backed, of The British Isles. Wooden rollers top and bottom. Scale 19 miles to one inch. Inset are larger plans of London and Surburbs and South Lancashire and Yorkshire. It is a handsome map which would look good hanging in a wall. It is an advertising map for The Distiller's Company Ltd. Manufacturer's of the celebrated "D.C.L." Yeast and "D.C.L." Malt Extract. Red dots on the map indicate the location of the 15 Distilleries owned by the Company. Their advertising title is to the upper right. The map is in very good condition. 75.00


18454. Bingley, James: The Official Travelling Map of England and Wales with part of Scotland copied from the Government Maps made by order of the Board ofOrdnance.

London: T.T. & J Tegg 1833. A folded dissected, linen backed sectional map opening to 61 x 48 cm. hand coloured. In its original card slipcase with its yellow and grey paper label. The map is in very good condition, The slipcase is worn and rubbed but is a scarce survival. A good item overall. 45.00

Black n.d. c.1850?. 15.5 x 11 cm. linen backed dissected map,opening to 85 x 62 cm. Scale 1 inch to 15 miles. Railways shown in colour as built and projected. They seem to be as built by c.1848. Gilt blocked embossed brown boards. Gilt faded, and the colour on the map is also a little faded, but otherwise in very good condition. 55.00


9699. Bowen, E: A New and Accurate Map of the Empire of Japan c.1749.

Edinburgh: Blackwood Pillans & Wilson, 1986. 41.5 x 53 cm. One of a limited edition for Ben Line in Edinburgh from an original map in their possession. Coloured, on heavy paper. Originally published by Bowen in 1642. In very good condition, suitable for framing. The map covers Japan, as laid down from the memoirs of the Portugese and Dutch and particularly from the Jesuit Missionaries as published by St. Bellin at Paris, being adjusted by astronomical observations by Eman Bowen. 15.00

Belfast: c.1955. 38 by 24 cms. A coloured pictorial map of Northern Ireland showing attractions,bordered top and bottom by the arms of the Counties and the cities of Belfast and Derry. There are four sellotape marks in the borders, not affecting the image, and a couple of small edge tears. Overall in good condition, would look well framed. 20.00

14849. Cruchley, G. F.: Crutchley's New Picture of London.

London: 10th edition 1845. 14.5 by 10 cms. xii+294+16 pp. title page not present. large folding handcoloured map. Dark embossed boards with gilt titling, spine professionally relaid, some repair to a few map folds, inconspicuous to rear. The publisher was a map specialist, and this is a particulaly nice map of London with only a few railways shown. A scarce item. 200.00

Belfast: Eason & Son n.d. circa late 1930's. 18 x 11 cm. unfolded. Scale 6 inches to 1 mile, with index to streets, public buildings, parks etc. on paper, folded. Apart from some small ink circling on a few road junctions, and the date 1910 on the cover, it is in good clean condition. 10.00

18529. Gardner, W. R.: New and Improved Map of England and Wales including the Principal part of Scotlandwhereon are carefully delineated all the Mail and Turnpike Roads Direct and Cross....

London: William Darton 58 Holburn Hill 16th April 1823 19 x 13 cm. opening to 76 x 64cm linen backed, dissected, hand coloured folding map. Scale 0ne inch to 15 miles. There is a small light stain in St Georges Channel, and to part of the map's eastern edge, in the North Sea, minor spots in Ayrshire, and a tiny loss in Cornwall west of Truro, otherwise in very good condition. It was clearly intended to have a slipcase for travelling purposes, but this is no longer present. This is a handsome map of pre Railway Britain and would look splendid framed. 95.00

The city's fifteen Wards are shown in various colours, and the tramways are shown in red. At some time the perimeter of the map has been bound with sellotape, now removed. The Belfast Holywood & Bangor Railway is shown as such. The BH&BR was incorpoated in 1860 and amalgamated into the B&CDR in 1884. 75.00

A folded map on linen-backed paper, uncoloured, scale 60 miles to the inch, in gold-blocked textured stiff card covers, in very good condition. The boundary dispute lines between New Brunswick and Maine along with the arbitration decision of the King of Holland as Arbitrator in 1831 are shown. The dispute was not settled until 1842. 14521. Walker J. & C.: A New Map of England and Wales with part of Scotland, showing the Mailcoach, Turnpike & Railroads, Canals etc.

London: Walker J. and C. 1842. 20.5 x 12 cm. Scale of one inch to fifteen statute miles. Separated, linen backed, hand coloured. drawn from the latest authorities by Geo Kemp Land Surveyor London. To the rear is pasted a chart of distances from London covering England and Wales. The front board rear pastedown has a folded sheet listing Railways completed or in progress with length and estimated expense. Although dated 1842 this is likely to have been printed about 1845. A very clear and attractive map, particularly interesting in showing major projected railways. Some of the backing is detaching from the map sections in places. Some old lightish staining affecting the lower left corner. The black boards into which the map is folded are faded, a bit worn with some staining but the original label is largely present. 95.00

18622. Weller, Edward: Bacon's Map of The Environs of Belfast.

London: C. W. Bacon n.d. c. 1870. 17.5 x 10 cm. linen backed, hand coloured map in green boards, partly embossed, and with gilt blocked title. Minor wear to boards otherwise in good condition.This is not a very common map. Weller 1819-1884 was on of the first cartographers to produce maps using lithography. After his death many plates were sold on to Bacon who continued to sell them. This map first appeared c.1863 but this map is a little later including several new railway lines. The Ulster Railway is so identified but it ceased in1876. This is a map from the early 1870's republished by Bacon after 1884 as far as we can see. 45.00
