Hunter family: Victorian Scrap Album. Belfast: 1879 et seq. A Victorian scrap album. 36 double-sided pages. 31 x 26.5 cm. Dark blue heavily embossed boards, with faint remains of gilding. Containing a rich mix of printed coloured Victorian scraps, newspaper cuttings - mostly poetry and humour, pasted-down pressed leaves, hand written poems - some original, and letters. One of the handwritten poems is on embossed notepaper for Parkmount, Belfast, (the home of H.H. McNeile J.P.), one handwritten poem is signed Annie McCandless, Coleraine, June 3rd 1885, and another is marked, "copied by M.A.H. June 1883". There are about 485 printed coloured scraps of varied sizes, 12 handwritten poems, and about 100 printed pieces. The ffep has the inscription "Elizabeth Hunter, 2 Hopefield Avenue, Belfast, Christmas 1879". This was the home of William Hunter, Builder. The condition is very good overall, but there were once about 30/40 further scraps which are no longer there, two of which have been cut out leaving a hole in the page, several of the pasted-down pressed leaves have gone, and some six or so of the existing scraps have damage.
