London:Macmillan and Co. 3rd ed. 1937. x+536 pp. t.e.g. The work was published in 12 vols, with a further supplementary volume. This volume consists of 144 pp. of bibliography and then pages 147-536 constitute the index, itself an extraordinary achievement. Original dark green boards with gilt spine title. Top front corner noticeably bumped, with som creasing, otherwise very good. 19.50

16770. Hurd, William: A New Universal History of the Religious Rites, Ceremonies and Customs, of the Whole World; or a Complete and Impartial View of All the Religions In the Various Nations of the Universe...

Manchester: J. Gleave,1813. ...Together with the History of the Reformed Churches; to which is added a Geographical Description of the Various Parts.... Third Edition. vi + 640 pp. 26.5 x 22 cm. Illustrated with 9 full-page engravings. Half leather and marbled boards. There is occasional marginal childish annotation, and some browning of pages. The book is quite worn and used, and pages 653-656 and the final page is missing. The spine has been professionally relaid, and has its original gold-blocked title label and decoration. The binding is tight but we can only describe the book as a poor/ fair copy. Its usefulness probably lies in the fact that the descriptions of religious belief and practice in various regions is based on 18th century and earlier observations. The 19th century saw the disappearance of many of the practices described. 65.00

This translation has been made from shorthand reports unrevised by the lecturer and published in German as part of the volume, Das Ereignis der Christus-Erscheinung in der aetherischen Welt.
