15593. Brewster Publications, Inc.: Shadowland The Magazine of Magazines Volume 3, Nimber 2.

New York: Brewster Publications, Inc., October 1920. "Expressing the Arts". 82pp. 21 x 33 cm. Articles include: Oliver M. Saylor 'The Super Cabaret' (Moscow); Charles Hollywood 'The Development of Color Photography'; Benjamin de Casseras 'The Twilight of Papini'; Dorothy Donnell and Gladys Hall 'Damnably Clever' (playlet); George O'Neil 'A Lyric Voice from Missouri' (poetry); Frederick James Smith 'A Dancer from Ol' Virginia' (Evan-Burrows Fontaine); and Reflections of a Gentle Cynic' (essay). Colour Plates: Martha Pierre (Ziegfeld Beauty); Nirska (dancer); Evan-Burrows Fontaine (dancer); Peggy Shaw (musical comedy); Enid Bennett (cinema star); and reproductions of a painting by HA Vincent, 'Nazimova' by Wynn Holcomb, and colour photography by HC Deeks. And glamour, glamour - from Camel Cigarettes to Lillian Gish. The first page is numbered "Page Three",and neatly written at the top is "E. Prost, 1920". The pagination may have included the covers: Page 3 would be an odd place for an owner to write their name, and a total of 82 pages is less usual than the 84 pages we would arrive at by including the covers in the pagination. Some pages are frayed at the fore-edge, the staples were rusted, the backstrip was gone, and the front and bottom edges of the front cover had been strengthed with Selotape. Our binder has replaced the staples with traditional stitching, and removed the Selotape. There are short edge-tears, and tiny bits missing from a few corners, but no loss of text. An incredibly nostalgic survival. £100.00
